WOW! This has been an amazing week.

Yesterday, I was on Fox 26 with Sally MacDonald to discuss Executive Moms Society and Katharine Zaleski’s apology to working moms. What an awesome opportunity to share Executive Moms Society with Houston and what we are doing to solve the problems highlighted by Zaleksi.

Zaleski’s article pinpoints a major problem facing women – especially mothers – in the workforce: the company culture. According to Zaleski:

They [young women] don’t realize how that “culture” pushes women out because it’s too often set up around how men bond. Many of these young women are just toeing the company line. I don’t begrudge them. I feel sorry for them.

This is exactly what Executive Moms Society is doing. We are working to change the culture and create a different environment for women to expand their network. As I’ve said before, women are not men. We do not network like men and we may have different interests. Also, women are usually the primary caregivers for their children and, as such, are responsible for making decisions for childcare, summer activities, and more.

While the group is made up of moms, this isn’t a “mommy group” focused on play dates. Executive Moms Society is a support network. Let’s face it, being a working mother is hard – this group wants to make it a bit easier.

Executive Moms Society’s next event will be on Wednesday, March 11 at 6pm at Cru Food & Wine Bar, located at 2700 Kirby Dr., Ste B-113. If you are in Houston, I hope to see you there.
